Valentines: Love, not Hate

Source: www.deccanchronicle.com

I genuinely don’t understand those who hate Valentines Day. I can understand why some don’t like it maybe because they associate a bad time with it. Like some songs make you feel sad because it was playing in the kitchen when you’re Mum came and found you to tell you your fish died when you were aged 10. Fucking Euyrthmics.
Or maybe they just don’t acknowledge it or even think about. They just go about their day as normal (pretty much like me) But to hate it? Sometimes I feel it’s going a bit far.
People bombard the internet and social media pages with comments like “Ergh, FUCK Valentines Day and all the couples” or “Such a nasty consumerist day” or “Roses are Red, Violets are shitty fuck fuck I’m single fuck shit” and I really don’t think it’s necessary.

People who have lost Mums or Dads on Mothers and Fathers Day don’t go spamming the web with “Ergh, FUCK you and your Mum’s. I hope they DIE” or “Dads are overrated anyway, who needs em” Course they don’t. They spread words of love and respect, remembrance and joy, and maybe in some cases they choose simply to ignore it. But they don’t make people feel bad for having it! (well maybe some do, but then they are mean!)

There’s this stigma in which people only believe that Valentines Day applies to those in a couple or who are married, which just isn’t the case. Valentines is simply a day to celebrate love and however which you want to do it. My best friend received a Valentines Card from her Dad telling her how special she was and how he loved her like no other. Some friends will send each other Valentines cards, not because they are single and sticking together (but that’s also fine if you wanna do that too!) but because they genuinely wanted to share their love. I texted my Mum this morning and said Happy Valentines day because she’s my Mum and I love her very much.

This day is whatever you make it, there are no rules and if you do want to ignore it and let it pass you by then that’s fine. But maybe we should stop hating those who have Boyfriends and Girlfriends and instead, direct our thoughts to those people in our lives who we love; Mums, Dads, Grandparents, Neighbours, Friends, Ex’s even, and pets if that’s where your love takes you! Go tell them today what they mean to you.

I think it’s a far better way to spend the day doing that than hating. Love is a lovely thing, embrace it.

Happy Valentines Day everyone :)

  3. Haha this made me giggle - I wouldn't say I literally HATE valentines day, but I do feel like love should be spread all year round and not especially on one day. I do get involved though! Really loving your blog btw! xx

    1. Aw thank you! Glad you're enjoying it! Yeah I agree with the all year round thing too, should be limited to one day. Just seems sad to shun it also! xx
